Tell Us Your Stories and the Community History

We’d like your input.  The board would like to create a pass-down book to help transition from one board to the next and to provide historical insight into the community.  We’re requesting that members of the community send us their community history and knowledge.  We’re looking for interesting facts, decisions, past outcomes, great stories, etc.  Tell us what you know and we’ll pull it together.

The Pool Committee Pages: The current pool committee consists of three community members who have donated much of their time and efforts to maintain one of our greatest amenities.  The current group would like to see this committee expanded to provide more benefits and get more of our neighborhood involved.  The following is a list of positions they propose having on this committee.  If anyone is interested in helping for the next year, please contact any member of the IHGE board or Kevin & Sandy Avery.

Ideas for the new and improved Indian Hills Pool Committee

Chairperson

  • Make a big plan – including a budget for white coating the pool every 8-10 years and replacing pool furniture
  • Oversee the committee’s choice of pool management company
  • Look to the long-term goals like replacing or filling in the old baby pool and putting in  a tikki bar or picnic area or something
  • See that somebody downloads the latest Anne Arundel County code for swimming pools and prepares for the annual inspection. This usually involves a number of small repairs and adjustments.
  • Attend community board meetings

Pool Manager

  • Coordinate with pool company over the day-to-day management of the pool. Usually involves a weekly meeting with pool supervisor. Best for somebody who uses the pool frequently

Treasurer

  • Maintain swimming pool account. Work budget with chairperson and Community Association Board

Memberships

  • Update membership agreement each year. Update the website with membership information and downloadable membership agreement
  • Post sign at the front of the community in February.  Provide email and phone #
  • Mail past members a renewal form and membership agreement
  • Maintain membership database

Social

  • Organize social events. Coordinate with clubhouse chair, swim team, and pool company (for extra guard coverage as needed)

Grounds (a number of people, maybe?)

  • Plant flower boxes. Coordinate special projects with the community -- for example, fence refurbishment or repair.
  • Lawn chairs (occasional power washing or restrapping)
  • Grills
  • Flower boxes (most are trashed)
  • Trash cans (exterior ones are new but all the interior ones are without lids)
  • Life guard chair (needs replacing)

Supplies

  • Stock supplies in advance of the spring inspection, and restock as necessary during the season. Supplies include cleaning (Simple Green, paper towels, toilet paper, trash bags, cleaning gloves, etc.)  and safety supplies (first aid, guard tubes, etc.)

We’re sorry the pool had to close a couple days early this year.  Tropical depression Ernesto took out the pool filters and an emergency repair was extremely expensive.  It will all be working again for the next season.

Hours and pool rules can always be found on the web page.

Standing Water Pools are Gone

The good news from tropical depression Ernesto was the lack of water pooling around the playground and tennis court.  The regrading and drainage installed by Duncan Septics was a success. This was paid for from the long-term projects line of the budget over the last two years. We do seem to have a new problem with water rushing from the corner of Chautaugua and Bald Eagle, across the playground and onto the basketball court.  The board has this new issue on their list.

New Pool Shed

Everyone has probably noticed the new shed at the pool.  Several community members gathered in early August to haul down the old shed and take it to the dump.  Some of the wood was used for a nice bonfire as well. The new shed was delivered from Pennsylvania Dutch Structures on 12 September.  Our new shed has vinyl siding which should diminish its upkeep requirements and longevity. This was also purchased using money from the long-term projects budget line.

Community Meeting

Kate de Medeiros and the rest of the board held a community meeting in mid August to discuss community needs for next year’s budget and long-term goals. Minutes from this meeting can be found on the web page.  We have a good list of projects that will need funding over the next 5-10 years.

2006/2007 DIRECTORY

It’s time to renew your information for the community directory.  Would everyone please fill out the next page and return it to any board member or John Chiochetti?  We have noticed that some information for community members need updating – especially the age of your children.
